COMPLETING THE MOSAIC

In 1990, the commitment to design the interior of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox church using mosaic
art began. During the past decade, the holy altar and many of the arches in the eastern end of the church have became
glorious examples of this majestic beauty that mosaic brings to a Byzantine-style sanctuary. The time is now to complete
the goal that was set several years ago. Starting with the placement of the awesome "Christ The Pantocrator"
icon in the church's main dome, the final phase of this project will move toward its completion.
St. Sava Church has entrusted world-renowned mosaic artist Sirio Tonelli to create the interior design of this sanctuary. The
Italian born painter/sculptor was trained in ecclesiastical art and took a special Interest in Eastern Orthodox iconography.
In his life time, Mr. Tonelli has worked on more than 100 churches throughout the world. His creations in the St. Sava Serbian
Orthodox Churches of San Gabriel, California and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have been critically acclaimed as being among the finest
artistic works of this kind.
To ensure the completion of the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church Interior, the "Mosaic Monument to Faith" campaign was
established in September of 2002.
A goal of this magnitude requires the support of all who have special feelings for St. Sava Church in San Gabriel.
St. Sava Church has established Annual Interior Fund-raiser. In two consecutive years these events were coordinated by Very Rev.
Petar Jovanovic. Both events brought substantial financial success as well as beautiful programs and wonderful entertainment for
those who attended. Financial success gave enough confidence to St. Sava Board to sign the contract with Mr. Tonelli, and start the
project. While we remain very grateful to all those who contributed to the project, we plead to all our members and parishioners
for continuous support.
Annual Interior Fund-raiser for this year is scheduled for November 13, 2004, please mark your calendars and plan on attending.
